Twinz V1

[Twinz V1 Thumb. Click To Enlarge]

My first real Amiga game, in all it's 32-colour glory. Real simple in concept, simple in graphics, and lot's of borrowed graphics! Click image to Enlarge.
Probbably the first complete game I wrote on the Amiga way back in like 1995. Written using AMOS Classic V1.3. The game originally started out as a small coding excercise to work with tiles and arrays, when a friend of mine suggested that I make some kind of a game out of it, hence Twinz was born. The history of the name is quite interesting, comes from my days as a speccy programmer. A good chap named Theo Develegas wrote a game on the Speccy called "Twinz", and I used to play it quite a lot, and so I named my Amiga version after the same game.

Most of the graphics came from Paul Burkey, and were taken from an early version of PilesOTiles. He let me use his images, and I added a lot of my own images too, and compiled the first public release of the game. There is also a much earlier version than this, though I couldnt find a copy of it in any of my archives to place for download, basically the game was much simpler, hehe.

During development, I decided to add bonus rounds in-between games to give the player a chance to gain extra points and stuff. I was reading a book on PCB boards and came up with an ingenious idea to use Resistors as a bonus level. For those who don't get what I mean, a Resistor (electrical component for circuit boards) has 3 to 4 coloured bands on it, and so I devised a level with all these colour coded bands. During testing, my friend Michelle was the closest to completing the level, with 6 pieces left to go. To this day, I haven't met/heard from a single person who was able to complete the whole level! There is also a Spots level in there, and a few others. Id always have my friends over, drinking beer and playtesting the game, as i'd get sick of looking at it after a certain amount of time =))

Altogether, the game took around a month to complete. After spreading it around to all my sources as a free game, it began appearing in PD lists all over the country, and even in some of the lists shown in printed ads in the press. I was impressed with it, being it was my first game for the Amiga that I actually finished in one go, without putting it off and waiting 6 months before working on it again.
